
Trauma Center: Second Opinion is the second entry and a remake of the first game.The game follows protagonist Derek Stiles as he confronts a manmade disease called GUILT. It was published in Japan and North America in 2005, and in Europe the following year. Trauma Center: Under the Knife is the first entry in the series, released on the Nintendo DS.Beginning with the Wii remake Second Opinion, the series was directed by Daisuke Kanada. Following the first game, a dedicated production team dubbed "CaduceTeam" was created to handle future games. The series was created by Katsura Hashino, who wanted to use the DS's controls to explore a simulation type only previously possible on PCs. A recurring organisation is Caduceus, a worldwide semi-covert medical foundation. While mostly dealing with different characters, the games share a common setting of a near-future Earth where advanced medical procedures are used to treat several patients, including outbreaks of deadly viruses. The gameplay is split between a surgical gameplay simulation, and visual novel storytelling. Beginning with Trauma Center: Under the Knife in 2005 for the Nintendo DS, the series released four more entries on the DS and Wii. Some include Cox, Turk, Dorian, Reyes, Faison, McGinley, Chalke, Elliot, Reid (all from Scrubs), Jesse, Spencer, Chase, Eric, Omar, Sean, Hugh, Laurie, Greg, and Lisa (all from House M.D.). In the North American version of the game, most of the characters' names are based on characters or the actors from medical based TV shows including Scrubs and House M.D. As expected, there are some new medical tools that can be used in the game, including a defibrillator, a penlight, and a flash camera. As aforementioned, the game is mostly used with the motion sensitive Wii Remote and Nunchuck remote, compared to the DS' stylus based control scheme. While the game contains all of the Nintendo DS game missions, it also includes some extra ones that can be unlocked near the end of the game. You must save the person before the time runs out, or they will die. The goal of the game is to work on a patient while at a hospital. It was a launch title for the console, and has generally received positive reviews. Just like the original used the stylus throughout most of the game, this game uses the Wii Remote.
